The course follows a rural, gentle rolling route over paved roads. It is an out and back course with a double loop in the middle. Approximately 21 miles of the course winds through the Chickamauga Battlefield Park. There are a series of three intermediate hills beginning at Mile 9 and the same hills at Mile 17.
COURSE MARKINGS It is the responsibility of each runner to know the course route. Runners who do not follow the course may be disqualified. Sentries will be posted at each major turn in the marathon, and all turns will be marked. Each mile of the marathon and the halfway point will be marked.
The course is not closed to traffic, but most of it is within the park where traffic is greatly reduced. Please be alert and courteous Please, please, please respect the church grounds … we want to be welcomed back!

2003 Runner’s Reactions from marathonguide.com “This was my first year at Chickamauga, but it won't be my last. The course was beautiful!” “This was my 39th marathon and am sure it will be a favorite. The weather was perfect, fall colors were beautiful and the monuments magnificent.” “Fantastic race. The organizers really care, and it shows” “The course has some gently rolling hills, but nothing ferocious. Spectators can drive to a spot on the course, and by walking short distances, can see their runners 4 times, and still drive back to the finish line before the runner gets there.” |
