Track Club Updates Finish Line Technology

The Chattanooga Track Club (CTC) announced today the adoption of the new IPICO Sports tag timing system. The timing system uses microchips to record runners’ results as they cross the finish line. It replaces the manual bib pull system currently used for finish line results.

The purchase of the new technology was made possible, in part, by a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Inc. The grant will make it possible for CTC to offer chip timing services to local non-profit organizations at a reduced cost.

Designed to make finish line results quicker and more accurate, the IPICO Sports tag timing system uses radio frequency identification (RFID) chips to register the results of individual runners as they cross over radio antennas placed at the finish line. The chips are imbedded in reusable plastic tags worn on the shoes of race participants. To learn more about the technology behind the IPICO Sports tag system please visit

CTC plans to introduce the new technology at several of its fall races, including the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon and Half Marathon on November 8th.
