For Immediate Release

The oldest and certainly one of the most popular road races on the Chattanooga Track Club schedule will be held on Saturday, April 21 when the 50th annual Chickamauga Chase 15K is contested at beautiful Chickamauga National Park.

The 9.3-mile race is the main event and it starts near Wilder Tower and makes one complete loop of the historical park where all runners will be blessed with beautiful flowering trees and all kinds of wildlife, including deer and wild turkeys. The route passes many historical monuments and documents that give details about some of the most vicious and deadly fighting in the Civil War.

While the 15K is the signature event of the day, there is also a 5K and an eight-mile trail run and all three are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. A 2.4-mile walk also starts at that time while the Kiddie K is set to begin at 8:35.

Day of race registration is set to open about 7 a.m., but participants can go to the track club website and register online.

Last year’s races attracted 814 participants with 281 in the 15K, 402 in the 5K and another 131 in the trail run.

Christian Thompson was the overall winner in the 15K last year with a time of 50:54 while Jason Altman was the runner-up in 52:41. Rachel Mason and Dianna Leun were the top two women with times of 1:02:40 and 1:04:33, respectively.
Derek Gallardo posted a time of 16:59 to win last year’s 5K while Renee Jackson was the women’d winner in 20:20.

Michael Conkel and Kiersten Boyd were the winners of the trail run a year ago with times of 53:19 and 1:06:45.

Proceeds from this year’s races benefit the Friends of the Park.
All the races will be held rain or shine.
