The Chattanooga
Track Club announced today that the 3rd Annual BMW of Chattanooga
Waterfront Triathlon has sold out with registration topping 1,200 entries. With
each entry representing either an individual racer or a team of two or three
racers, overall participation in the triathlon is expected to be close to
1,500.
This marks a record for the event,
which will take place on Sunday July
15, 2007. Last year the triathlon had a total of 888 entries.
The event, which brings competitors
from around the country, is expected to generate over $900,000 for the local
economy.
The BMW of Chattanooga Waterfront
Triathlon features a 1.5k swim down the Tennessee River,
a 40k bike along Highway 27, and a 10k race along the Riverwalk. The event will
be centered around the swim/bike/run transition area located at Ross’s Landing,
next to the Tennessee Aquarium.
As a 2007 USAT USA Triathlon
Regional Championship, the BMW of Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon will serve
as a qualifying event for both the 2008 Short Course Triathlon World
Championship and the 2008 USAT National Age Group Championship.
