As part of the Charity Challenge, a portion of each participant's entry fee was donated to a charity of the participant's selection. Participants also raised additional funds for the charity, if they chose, through a special online fund raising system.

This year’s Charity Challenge included two new charities: Area 4 Special Olympics and Partnership for Families, Children and Adults. Charities that participated again this year included: McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center, Bethlehem Center, Chattanooga Room in the Inn, Children’s Advocacy Center, Children’s Home / Chambliss Shelter and Tennessee Aquarium.

The races were made possible through the generosity and hard work of numerous volunteers and sponsors.
