For Immediate Release

The oldest and one of the most scenic races on the Chattanooga Track Club schedule will be held on Saturday, April 18 when the 47th running of the Chickamauga Chase takes place at historic Chickamauga Park.

There are three running events connected to this year’s race, including a 15K, a 5K and an eight-mile trail race. There will also be a scenic walk and a Kiddie K.

All events are set to begin at 8:30 a.m. on the road adjacent to Wilder Tower. Parking is available at the large field nearby.

The 15K is one of America’s oldest 9.3-mile races and basically circles the battlefield, passing many monuments that commemorate one of the most fierce Civil War battles that was waged in 1862.

The course has rolling hills, but is basically flat and fast. The dogwoods are blooming this time of year and the Red Buds are beautiful as well, so the scenery in itself is spectacular. Throw in the sight of deer grazing along the way and you have a perfect setting for a competitive road race.

While the races begin at 8:30, race-day registration starts at 7 a.m.

Isaac Pacheco was the 15K winner last year in 52:36 while Jennifer Stocks was the female winner, claiming 10th place among 433 finishers with a time of 1:02:50.

Thomas Barker and Emrick Garrett were the 5K winners in 2014 with times of 16:15 and 22:22, respectively.

Those not wanting to run are welcome to serve as volunteers in any number of roles.  All volunteers will receive the same technical shirts that the participants receive.

George Skonberg is again serving as the race director and he can be contacted at George@chickamaugachase.com or 757-7633 for additional information.
