For Immediate Release

The oldest and one of the most popular races on the Chattanooga Track Club schedule will held on Memorial Day, which is Monday, May 29 when the 50th annual Chattanooga Chase is held in Riverview.

The race, which includes a challenging 8K and a flat and fast one mile, benefits the Elementary School Cross Country Series in the Chattanooga Track Club, which includes races every Thursday in September at Camp Jordan Park for children in grades 3, 4 and 5.

The 8K main event is set to begin at 8 a.m. while the one-mile is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start. The usual overall and age group awards will be presented in both races.

Rock Creek, one of the sponsors for the event, will be awarding a premium to the first male and female runners to reach the water stop at the top of Minnehakda, which is the long climb near the midway point that this race has become known for.

A post-race picnic will be held starting at 10 a.m. with refreshments and lawn games for folks of all ages.

Grilled hot dogs will also be served.

Online registration can be completed by going to www.active.com while race-day registration will begin at 6:30 a.m.

This year’s race is presented by Fast Break Athletics and Chattanooga Whiskey.

Defending champions for the 8K include Seth Ruhling with a time of 27:29 and Jennifer Stocks, who posted a time of 33:43 last year.

Ruhling and Emily Bell are the defending winners of the one mile with times of 4:53 and 5:23, respectively.

This year’s race is the RRCA State Championship for 8K.

Early packet pickup will be held at Fast Break Athletics on Sunday, May 28 from 1-5 p.m.
