For Immediate Release

The 2017 Riverbend Run will be held on Saturday, June 17 with a 10K and 5K race both starting under the Ogiati Bridge on Riverfront Parkway.

This 35th annual event will begin with the 10K at 7:30 a.m. while the 5K will start five minutes later. An untimed one-mile fun run/walk will then be held at 7:40.

These popular races, sponsored by the Center for Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics, will offer prize money to the top three finishers in both races, including males and females.

First place will receive $100 and two VIP passes to the Riverbend Festival for the final night, including the ever-popular fireworks show to conclude the event.

Second place will receive $75 while a $50 prize will be awarded to those folks finishing third.

Pre-race registration can be completed at www.racectc.org while race-day registration will open at 6 a.m.

The 10K race heads out Riverfront Parkway toward Amnicola Highway before turning back at the Boathouse Restaurant. The course then goes over the Walnut Street Bridge before a return on the Veteran’s Bridge before the final downhill sprint to the finish.

The 5K course includes both bridges, but does not go past that point.

Pre-race packet pickup will be held on Friday, June 16 at Outdoor Chattanooga, located at 150 River Street in Coolidge Park from 1-6 p.m.

John Gilpin is the defending champion in the 10K after winning last year with a time of 34:10. Emily Bell’s time of 39:06 was first among the ladies.

The defending winners in the 5K include Kevin Huwe at 17:13 and Keely Stewart at 19:36.

Contact race director Jane Webb at president@chattanoogatrackclub.org.

The races will be held rain or shine and there will be no refunds should either race be cancelled.
