For Immediate Release

The shortest and fastest race on the Chattanooga Track Club schedule will take place on Saturday, May 5 when the annual Market Street Mile is contested in downtown Chattanooga.

The race, a flat-and-fast one-mile loop, starts at the corner of Second and Market Streets and travels south before turning right on Eighth Street. Another right on Broad leads back to the finish line just beside the Big River Grille.

Many Tennessee state records have been broken on this course, so if you think you’re within striking distance, come on down and give it a shot.

On-line registration will end at midnight on Thursday, May 3 and can be accessed by going to www.racectc.org. Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The first race will start at 7:45 and will involve boys and girls 10 and under. Wheelchair racers line up at 18 while those males and females ages 11-19 are set to begin at 8:20. Females ages 20-39 race at 8:40 while those same ages for males battle at 8:55.

Those ladies 40 and over race at 9:15 with the 40 and over men at 9:30. An untimed fun run takes place at 9:45 with the awards being presented at 10.

Lucas Cotter and Jonathan Boyd had the two fastest times last year with a 4:31 and 4:44, respectively, while the top two ladies had Rachel Mason taking 12th overall in 5:34 and Danielle Alfano finishing 18th overall in 5:46.
