2018 Moccasin Bend Classic

The flattest and fastest races on the Chattanooga Track Club schedule will be held on Saturday, October 6 when the Moccasin Bend Classic take place.

Formerly the Great Pumpkin Run, this is the 35th straight year for this race and it includes a 10K and a 5K. It’s a no frills races with lower entry fees. Age group awards will be presented, but there will be no T-shirts for the participants.

The race starts and finishes at the Moccasin Bend Hospital, which is located at 100 Moccasin Bend Road. It’s an out-and-back course and it’s as flat and fast as any race around.

Race-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with the 10K starting at 8 and the 5K at 8:10. The awards for both events will take place at 9:30.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Johnson Mental Health Center’s PATH program, which stands for Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness.

Ken Curran was last year’s overall winner of the 10K in 35:37 while Dean Thompson was second in 36:31. Emily Bell and Rachel Mason were the first two females as they finished seventh and eighth place overall with times of 38:01 and 39:19, respectively.

Thomas Loher was the overall winner in the 5K with a time of 18:39 while Keri McKay was the first female in 22:39.
