For Immediate Release
One of the most challenging and certainly one of the most scenic races on the Chattanooga Track Club schedule will be held on Saturday, October 20 when the annual Signal Mountain Pie Run takes place.
It’s a 10K race designated this year as the Southern Regional 10K championship by the Road Runner’s Club of America. It starts at the old Signal Mountain Junior High at 315 Ault Road. Now known as the Signal Mountain Athletic Club, this race begins at 8 a.m. and is a no frills event, which means there are no T-shirts and no age group awards.
However, it is a prediction run with the runner getting closest to his or her predicted time going home with $50 in cash. Second and third place predictors earn $30 and $20, respectively.
Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m. and all pre-registered runners will be guaranteed an apple pie from the Bread Basket.
Jose Polido of Chatsworth, Ga. was last year’s prediction winner as he was right on the nose with his predicted time.
John Gilpin was the overall winner in 33:43 while John Sillery was second in 37:29. Victoria Winslow and Amanda Tate were the first two ladies with times of 39:01 and 40:53, respectively.
This race is held on a certified course that includes several significant hills, including challenging climbs in the first and last mile.
