Chickamauga Chase History

This will be the forty-sixth running of The Chickamauga Chase. It has been held since 1968 in the historic and beautiful Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park. The Chickamauga Chase is Chattanooga's oldest continuously run road race, and the signature event 15K is one of America's oldest races at this distance.

Establishment of the National Military Park

151 years ago, the historical battle took place in the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park where the Confederate victory gave new hope to the South. Soon Chattanooga fell setting the stage for the capture of Atlanta, Sherman's March to the Sea, and the resolution of the long war. The Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park became the first of America's great national military parks established to commemorate the heroism of both the North and South.

15K (Main Event) & 5K
The timed 15K (9.3 Mile, Main Event) & timed 5K (3.1 Mile) races are competitive, certified events with age/gender categories and awards.  Participants must let officials know before the race if they decide to change events.  Strollers and baby joggers are not allowed in any of these events.

The 15K is a loop course through the Chickamauga & Chattanooga Military Park where monuments and cannons from the civil war can be seen as participants run this moderately rolling course.

The 5K is a very popular fast and mostly flat course. The race has a simultaneous start with the 15K, both races staying together for approximately 1.5 miles where the 5K turns off to the right then doubles back on about a mile of the first part of the course.

Kiddie K

The Kiddie K, approximately 1 kilometer (.6 mile), is a non-competitive run/walk for children age 9 and under only.

Scenic Walk
