Brief Overview

This marathon is a road race. After starting in the park, the route leaves the park and follows the beautiful Blackburn Fork State Scenic river then finishes back in the park at the overlook of Cummins Falls. This run is packed with scenery and is sure to be enjoyed by traditional marathon runners and trail runners alike. There is a full day of activities planned, including: music, animal programs, a hike, and of course food; so bring the family and friends. The purpose is to raise funds to help purchase property that is important to the protection of Cummins Falls State Park, while promoting healthier lifestyles, the outdoors and nature. Cummins Falls State Park is Tennessee’s newest state park. Named after the Cummins Family that owned the land for about 180 years; the Park has 211 acres on the Blackburn Fork State Scenic River with a magnificent waterfall and large plunge pool below it. Along with a beautiful secluded stretch of river. Even with the relatively small size of 211 acres it feels much larger; even though only about a 15 minute drive out of Cookeville, one can feel they are truly out in the wild and away from things. This is because much of the surrounding private property is not developed. The properties for the Park were acquired by the state, with the efforts of The Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation, in early 2012; but the job is not complete, there is additional property that is needed to truly protect the Park and time is an issue. The Friends of Cummins Falls State Park is a non-profit group whose mission is to assist in protecting, preserving, and promoting the natural ecosystems, historic infrastructure and park facilities of Cummins Falls State Park for the education and enjoyment of Tennessee’s citizens and visitors.
